Born out of the frustration and unproductive nature of working from home, Marcel Studio was launched in February 2013 by myself and fellow designer, Edward Stroud.

Marcel is a shared studio / gallery space, one of the pioneers of shared creative spaces in Perth, offering desk space for rent to creative freelancers and sole traders – an affordable and more professional alternative to working from home.

Built in 1923, the building had housed a hairdresser and tobacconist for many years. The name Marcel is thus fittingly derived from the popular women's hair style of the flapper period, the marcel wave, reflecting the history of the building.

The identity was developed to reflect the 1950s era through the use of colour, typography and mid-century styling of the interior decorations.
